Crabber - New BuildMMS have now completed the 14.5m vivier-crabber for Skipper Iain Gray of Bridlington. Particular attention to the vessels design has been carefully thought out by the Skipper with assistance from MMS and Macduff Ship Design who supplied the drawings and the pre-cut steel. The vessel is fully shelterdecked and all shellfish catches will be stored in a 30,000 litre vivier hold. A Cummings N14-M main engine along with a Cummings 6BT5.9M auxiliary will provide the necessary power. For more information please go to New Builds

Arco AdurThe Hanson Marine Aggregates vessel Arco Adur dry docked during August for a comprehensive 14 day overhaul and refit. The work consisted of over 100 jobs being carried out including overhauling of the dredge system, refurbishment of winches, wing tank steel renewal and a full re-paint.

Svitzer Sarah & HT ScimitarTwo tugs were recently dry docked together for Voith Propulsion repairs. MMS have carried out repairs and maintenance to this type of propulsion unit on a number of occasions. The Svitzer Sarah was re-painted in the new owners livery and the Port side Propulsion unit was removed into the workshop for complete overhaul. The HT Scimitar had both propulsion units completely removed and overhauled with the rotary casings fully shot blasted prior to machining.

Sand HeronThe Cemex owned dredger Sand Heron dry docked for sea tube liner replacement and suction pipe repairs.

UKD BluefinThe UKD Bluefin dry docked for emergency repairs to her hopper lower doors. Four complete doors were removed into the dock bottom and refurbished prior to refitting with new seals. Other emergent work was carried out and the vessel was undocked within the five-day time frame allowance.

VeloxThe Faversham Ships owned vessel Velox dry docked for special survey which included steel repairs to the bottom shell plating and hold bulkheads. Additional work included high pressure washing and coating the vessels hatches and renewing various pipe work. The vessel was in dry dock for a total of ten days to complete all the work.

Accommodation UnitsMMS are building two more accommodation units for the Cobelfret owned ferries Clementine and Celestine. The units are exactly the same as four previously built seven years ago. Each unit weighs 50 tons and has six cabins all fitted to a very high standard complete with en-suites. MMS will tranship the units to the vessels in a designated port as requested by the owners. The yard will then send a riding crew of 6 to carry out the necessary installation work. |

Linga - Shetland Inter Island FerryMMS have successfully completed modifications to the Shetland Isle owned ferry Linga. The full keel and skeg was modified to improve handling of the vessel. This required every keel block supporting the vessel being removed to enable access to install the prefabricated skeg along with new fin keels. The vessel was grit blasted along with a full re-paint from keel to mast top. Other general repairs and maintenance were carried out during the 22 day docking schedule. |

LeonisThe Panamanian registered cargo vessel Leonis dry docked for Port bow and underwater repairs in No 2 dock. The vessels dimensions being length 112m x beam 17.6m x deadweight tonnage 6858. |

Dea ClipperThe Offshore support operator Nomis Shipping's new addition the Dea Clipper arrived at the shipyard from America during mid May. The new pre-fabricated fully fitted out 60 ton survival unit was built ready and waiting at the shipyard. After installation of the unit launch davits and fast rescue are being installed along with modifications to the existing accommodation. |

Ensco 80An unusual request was called for from the American Offshore Drilling company Ensco. The Ensco 80 was moored in the Humber for maintenance work and the company required four coded welders to complete work on a dive platform being installed. MMS mobilised the welders and attended the rig by boat from Grimsby with Humber Ports foreman Rob Hicks. From receiving the telephone call MMS mobilised the welding team and were onboard the rig within six hours. They carried out a first class job and were onboard for a week. |
